Zenith 2 Fountain Pen PL (post 1965)

Zenith 2 Fountain Pen PL (post 1965) - pen

General

It was supposed to be “Polish Parker”. By now many years later the well-known cult pen, known as Zenith 2, which the whole Poland has been using. Its main factory was in the same place for almost half a century, located “ul. Żwirki i Wigury” in town of Częstochowa. Our copy of Zenith 2 is still working. I must add, that there are at least four other Zenith branded writing instruments made all over Europe if not the world nowadays.

Features

This pen is often compared to Parker 51 which is incorrect. 51 is much bigger in its length and width. For me Parker M61 is much closer but still longer than Zenith 2. Although the filling systems are completely different, and having both of them in my hand, I can confirm this without shadow of a doubt. This pen barrel and cap are made from black resin and brushed stainless steel; the nib is again made from non-magnetic metal with Iridium point. Its nib is fine in its size and the filler type is similar to Aerometric design but with the double rather than single pressure bars located on both sides. Zenith2 is quite firm but definitely smooth, as otherwise it will not reach its popularity levels.

Comments

Yes, this pen comes from the post WWII and the Cold War period, but its everyday use by millions of people, all over Central Europe including Poland, combined with plethora of other perfectly reasonable characteristics, easily deserves overall rating of tree stars.
