General
For the first time in the writing instrument universe, Visconti of Florence produced a pen using lava from Mount Etna in Sicily combined with modern resin. The Visconti cap locks safely on to the pen’s main body with its unique locking system. A delicate clockwise twisting motion suffices to close the pen, while it opens by pushing the cap down and turning it anticlockwise.
Features
The nib assembled on this pen is Visconti’s own bran “Giotto” and manufactured in house in 18k solid gold. Visconti pens are guaranteed against mechanical faults for up two years from the date of purchase. This regular edition model has been in continuous production since 2010. Over the years, the pen has not been modified, except for the clip, where its engraving font was changed in 2017, as well as the nib. The history of the nibs started originally with a 23k palladium, later an 18k gold (both produced by Bock) and since 2020 with an 18k solid gold nib, made in house, by Visconti.
Comment
The Visconti Homo Sapiens Bronze Age pen with its unique original design concept of the basaltic Etna’s lava composition is a wonderful writing instrument and an iconic fountain pen. This pen is a part of our own personal collection.
