Pelikan M200 Fountain Pen (2018)

Pelikan M200 Fountain Pen (2018) - pen

General

My rather openly public romance, with Pelikan pens is fully admitted here and started a long time ago with Pelikan 100, inherited as a family heirloom. The arrival of the M200 pen is quite recent and the pen is about 90 years younger than our treasured Pelikan 100. Naturally, as clearly envisaged Pelikan M200 pen, should live up to my expectations. Yes, it is a modern and new “classic” and obviously highly welcomed to our collection.

Features

The Pelikan M200 is simply exquisite. It has the typical and easily recognised Pelikan look and feel design, being mostly cylindrical, but with a very slight taper of the barrel toward its ends. The M200 is a classic piston-filler, so the grip section & barrel are one integrated single body. The barrel consists of a warm brown pearl marbled resin which is mesmerizing and “optically” deep. The front of the barrel is darkish translucent anthracite, acting as a useful ink window. Comparing with our 400NN pen, the M200 is slightly shorter, but this is only realised in its cap area. Otherwise, these writers are intended for entirely different use. Our new M200 is equipped with Broad size nib, whilst the 400N comes with Extra Fine smooth nib.

Comment

So, following some aesthetic principles and good taste, M200 was filled with Diamine Warm Brown ink. Naturally it worked perfectly first time. The nib is smooth with Pelikan obvious character and some build-in flexibility but nothing comparable to our super loyal Pelikan 100. But then it is broad size so this has to be factored into any consideration. Now, the next Pelican in my plan should be M600 or 800 one day…
