Montblanc No. 149 Meisterstück Fountain Pen (1994) - pen

General

The MB149 is the truly ultimate depiction of a classic cigar shape fountain pen. There’s at least eight+, other well or less known pen brands that openly decided to sort of …’look like’ the well know design of the Montblanc 149 Meisterstück fountain pen. I guess and here I am totally sure, that says plenty. The MB 149 model presented here is from the mid-1990s vintage and has been in constant heavy use for many years.

Features

The Montblanc Meisterstück 149 is a MB flagship and the standard all other pens are judged against for very good reason. These fountain pens are excellent writers, they are produced with incredible consistency even across many decades. They come with a beautiful, hand-tooled and finished in 18k gold (Au750), a large No. 8 nib that offers a truly excellent writing experience. The bi-colour (two tone) nibs are most popular here and our pen is sized as Medium (M). The grip section of this pen is a separate piece attached to the main pen body with the help of the actual nib assembly. Personally, I have learned from MB pen experts, many times over, that by overtightening the nib, it is very easy to crack this delicate section, resulting in serious damage and a costly repair.

Comments

A number of factors makes this pen very special. Most important of all though is the quality of its classic design and consistency in manufacturing proven over many years. The MB149 is undoubtedly an excellent pen with an excellent pedigree. A must in any serious classic pen collection.
