General

The Platinum Pen Company Ltd of Tokyo, Japan has been manufacturing pens since 1919. This flagship 3776 is one of their best fountain pens with the company’s mandatory gold nib. The Platinum 3776 Century Diamond is sold in a wide range of colours such as: Chartres Blue, Bourgogne, Black, Nice Lilas, Black with Rhodium Trim, Nice Lavande, Black, Oshino and Chartres Blue with Rhodium Trim.

Features

The innovative cap contains a unique “Slip & Seal” protection that prevents ink from drying out in the pen, which normally is highly likely. Platinum claim that the ink will always be in fresh state even if you do not use a pen for up to two years. Incidentally, the 3776 is the official height in metres of Mount Fuji, the highest peak in Japan. The Platinum 3776 Century fountain pen is made in Japan, and features a resin barrel and cap with a 14k (Au585) solid gold nib with the Iridium point. This pen fills via cartridge or a Platinum manufactured converter.

Comment

The 3776 model was developed in 1978 in collaboration with the late Mr. Haruo Umeda, a Japanese fountain pen collector and writer, aiming to make the ideal fountain pen. Named after Mount Fuji’s altitude, the pen was the company’s hope to create the best fountain pen in Japan. Many of the pen collectors around the world agree with this bold statement. We are intending to test the two-year fresh ink principle.
