Collecting fountain pens can be addictive for some people, but most people, except perhaps the addict’s spouse or partner, would agree that there are far worse addictions.
All pens, except fresh out of the shop new pens, have some sort of history, and for some this history is part of the fascination, for others it is a restoration to remove the signs of that history, different strokes for different folks.
Of course, there is no reason why both modern and vintage pens cannot be collected at the same time, whatever the reasons that drive the collector, or the criteria that they apply to their collecting, these are personal to them, subject to change over time, and quite possibly inexplicable to a third party.
The selection here is not based on any one criterium, it is not brand specific, it is not country of origin specific, nor is the selection related to the cost of the pens. Cheap pens sit alongside better known more costly pens and even a few seriously expensive pens but none of the, ’you will need a second mortgage to buy that’, type of pen.
Pens from still existent brands sit alongside pens from defunct brands, it is after all just one person’s take on a, or snap shot of what is likely to be an expanding, group of pens.
We wish you all a very enjoyable reading.
