Parker Model 61 Custom Fountain Pen (1974)

Parker Model 61 Custom Fountain Pen (1974) - pen

General

First released in 1956, the new Model 61 featured a new filling mechanism known as the capillary system. During the 1960s, Parker released its new version and changed over to the system devised for the Model 45. Where the pen could use either their ink cartridges or Parker’s new aerometric converter.

Features

The new Model 65 released in 1969 and only made in the UK. It was basically almost identical to the Model 61 except for the use of an open cropped nib. Our Model 61 is dated c1974 and comes with its barrel manufactured in a Classic Red-Burgundy colour and with the gold-plated cap and trim. The Nib fitted is medium size and made in 14K (Au585) solid gold, which in France is called “yellow metal” as anything below 18K in France is not legally called gold. This nib is rigid and very smooth and an absolute pleasure to use. It clearly deserves 5 stars for both smooth writing and personal comfort in holding the pen. It is very good as far writing control is concerned and application for everyday use.

Comment

Parker Model 61 Custom Fountain Pen, then and now is a writing instrument which must and should be recommended, both as a reliable pen and a valuable addition to any collection. Trying to summarise its quality of design and workmanship – it is a very honest well-made pen. Our example, after 49 years of service, looks brand new. Very good value for money.
