General
Montblanc Model 22 is one of the most complex Montblanc designed fountain pens with approximately 20 generic parts. It features a high grade black precious resin (BPR) and a proper 14k gold filled trimmings. The cap has two rings for protection and anti-crack resistance. The pen is virtually perfectly balanced, it feels very solid but certainly not too heavy in both the usual un-posted or fully posted format.
Features
Produced originally in West Germany from 1960s until almost 1980s, this pen is highly rated by both independent MB fountain pen experts and also by the many knowledgeable MB users worldwide. The most popular five colours of this model are: Black & Gold, Gray, Dark Green, Black and Bordeaux Burgundy. As expected M22 is a proper piston filler. Over 50 years since manufactured originally in Germany, MB22 is still very popular, enjoying even a special collector icon status in Japan and Europe. It works well as a multi-ink pen and the ink’s inspection window is very useful. It comes as standard with 14k gold (Au585) nib, whilst 18k (Au750) nib upgrade is also possible (ex-French export, as under French Law anything below 18k cannot legally be called gold).
Comments
Finding a good example of MB22 is not too difficult, however one must avoid all those tired specimens with cracks in the cap area or those pens that suffered poor quality amateur repairs, often performed without using proper tools. Those who know the M22 well, collect them because of the superb nib in the most available sizes is a pure delight to use. It also performs well with the fast and very fast handwriting.

Ink used: Parker Quink Blue-Black, France/UK
