General
Baoer 500 fountain pen is finished in black lacquer with gold trim. It is a PRC made very simple writing instrument with the Baoer ink converter fitted. It is one of the lowest cost fountain pens around with the Ebay price tag of £9 as advertised. More of a tube shape than a cigar in jet black gloss finish.
Features
Baoer 500 has its gold-plated nib in medium size of approx. 0.70 mm, whilst the total height is 137 mm, with the grip section size measuring approx. 10.8 mm. The barrel and cap are black in its lacquered finish, and due to the use of some metal in its construction, the Baoer 500 has a moderate weight of 29.7 g. Some reviewers classified this model as heavy. We disagree, as the weight of this pen is average and totally acceptable. The bi-colour nib provided is rigid and smooth with no flexibility, which is naturally not expected here. Most of the barrel has a plain black design. The cap is also black with a wide 8 mm gold plated ring with the engraved Baoer 500 name on it. It can be securely posted to the cylinder base of the barrel where the cap should be posted.
Comment
Probably the best part of this pen is its nib. It has a very smooth two-tone steel base which is vertically stamped Baoer. It also writes very well upside down, which we checked many times. This is because this nib has been specially design for his type of writing. Not many pens do this well. This one does. It is a great nib for any type of the fountain pen and naturally great value for money. The quality of materials, workmanship and design in this pen is more than acceptable. Delivering expensive very good pens is what is expected, whilst building low-cost pens which perform well is another story.
