General
Yet another Jinhao sub £10 fountain pen. This pen is probably aimed at the entry market and such as, I have ordered it as the first ever fountain pen for my 11-year-old grandson, starting his senior school. Some reviews criticised this Jinhao X450 pen, calling it a heavy pen, even calling it a weapon… I have tested this pen during many practice sessions with my 11-year-old, and I can officially confirm, that he is quite happy with the pen and with its 43 g weight. In fact he strongly prefers it to the much lighter variety on offer. Problem solved.
Features
This Jinhao X450 pen comes with medium M bi-colour nib, whilst both fine F and extra fine EF nib upgrades exist. Its enamel/lacquer coated brass, makes this pen relatively heavy but holding it in your hand and looking at it, the build quality is overall very good, and amazing for its low price. Both barrel and cup are made from marbled blue/light grey and white acrylic material. The trim pieces and its fixed type clip are very light gold plated. The grip section is a little similar to LAMY Safari but as the black add-on piece and not as one integrated with the main body as in Safari. The cap on X450 is a friction fit, snap on/off cap with a nice, satisfying “pop”, unfortunately this pen does not post or posts poorly, so do not expect this feature to be used.
Comments
I have learned by now, about many more pens which are not posting either at all or poorly. Despite this for what is this fountain pen intended, I am satisfied with this acquisition for the next generation. If he loses it in the school, I will get him another in the same colour, of course.
