Jinhao 8802 is something like a 1962 Morris Minor 1000 “Woodie”, equivalent of a post 2016 manufactured classic fountain pen, in short, a contemporary classic. It was delivered to us long time ago and initially it was my daily writer. People who like classic cars agree that very often an “old car is like old friend”. After losing or misplacing some expensive pens, the low cost 8802, was for me the real answer. If I lose my pen again, I will buy immediately the next one, so this is much better than replacing a very expensive pen or permanently losing old friend.
Features
The size difference between large and smaller pens is pretty significant. The 8802 sits nicely in the average size hand, and its weight of just below 38 g is comfortable. I use it uncapped because the cap weight just throws the balance off, making it significantly top heavy. The nib is rigid and made in polished steel, of the fine size variety and is smooth. Both cartridge and Jinhao converters are acceptable here. Its trim consists of chrome plated clip, two rings on the pen and third one on the cap itself. The chrome is quite bright and well-polished exactly like the chrome on a classic car. The barrel and cap colours are black on the cap and rosewood effect on the barrel.
Comment
I like this pen a lot for its entire design package, simplicity, balance in hand and for quality of materials and workmanship. Its value for money could be a clear benchmark for this sort of fountain pen design. And as you might already guessed, as I like classic cars, this pen fits well into my collection, where is staying put.
