General
One of the longest running Parker product lines since the early 60s until 2007, reaching between its different versions, approx. 10 mln pieces sold worldwide. It was named after the famous 1911 Colt 45 ACP calibre US sidearm, which became the most-famous in the American West. Our own pen is a second iteration of the 45 model, upgraded to third iteration only in 1984.
Features
Designed as a brushed stainless steel pen body with chrome trim and clip, with only the grip section using the black resin material. Clip is a nice firm fit and properly aligned. Its Medium nib is very smooth and is made from stainless steel with the usual iridium point. Both cartridge and standard converter are compatible. Parker Introduced the 45 over 60 years ago in the early 1960s, and it was historically its first cartridge pen. It became one of the most successful models ever with many model variations continuing for 47 years. The nib performs very well indeed, producing a smooth and medium wet consistent line, perhaps a little on the broad side of medium.
Comment
It is accepted as very reliable, has a good quality, smooth nib and is, and always was a very good value for money. Some pen experts states that the 45 was an exceptional value for money. Very much underrated now, the 45 is very strong build and is practically indestructible as fountain pen can be. It is highly practical and very good for everyday use, like 45 ACP.
