General
The Parker Model 17 was introduced in the UK in 1962, and two pens were available, the 17 Duofold with a thin cap ring and the 17 Super Duofold with a deep cap ring. Early Versions have open nibs similar to the Parker 65, but these were made apparently only for 2 years. Later versions have hooded nibs similar to the popular Parker 51.
Features
Our own Vintage Parker Model 17 Super Duofold, was made in the UK Parker factory in Newhaven around 1970. These pens were offered in number of colour versions e.g., black/navy/red etc and in GT Resin with gold trim. The overall length was 137 mm, grip size was 10.1 mm and its weight was just 15.8 g. Filling type in all models was as expected, the Parker Aerometric squeeze filler. The nib: 14K in solid gold, medium or fine. The clip is of a fixed and standard Parker type. The Model 17 “Lady” was introduced two years later in 1964. The Model 17 Lady version is much smaller by almost 20 mm, when compared with the Parker Model 17 Super Duofold fountain pen. No spare parts are interchangeable between these models.
Comment
An underrated fountain pen that is a superb writer with a famous super smooth nib. A very good choice for an everyday writer. Nowadays there is a good supply of these pens on the market and choosing the right example is not difficult. There is quite a choice for servicing options for vintage Parkers in the UK and it looks that nothing is going to change in this department soon and even in the short-medium term.
