General
Sheaffer Vintage Lady Skripsert IV Paisley was made in the years 1958-64. The pen comes with medium size plated stainless-steel nib. Our specific pen was made in Australia. These pens were primarily produced as “fountain pens and as fashion items”. Lady Shaeffer IV is finished in Paisley (dense tightly repeating engraved gold wave pattern on a jet-black enamel finished pen). Sheaffers also provided palladium plated stainless steel M or F choice of nibs.
Features
Our Lady Sheaffer IV was part of the Skripsert (clipless) line, manufactured in 1962. The line was shown in April 1958 at Expo 58, the Brussels World’s Fair, in Brussels, Belgium. All this was organised in order to make this the biggest impact pen marketing campaign in Shaeffer’s history. Filling system uses proprietary Sheaffer cartridges. We tested squeeze converters and standard piston converters, and none will fit properly. Colour of the pen is as follows: the body is black enamel with detailing in gold. These fish-scale patterns Shaeffer called “Paisley Gold.” The nib is No.6 in Medium or Fine sizes. The nib is most probably stainless steel and was sold as Shaeffer U.S.A., and it is a short Triumph style nib.
Comment
The article “High Fashion Comes to the Pen Industry” in the March 1958 edition of Sheaffer’s Review covers the story of the launch of Shaeffer’s first pen line designed specifically for ladies as a fashion accessory. Shaeffer announced this new line on March 20th, 1958, by inviting fashion editors of several influential international magazines to a special press launch event.
