General
The Météore is one of the historic French brands in fact quite similar to Conway Stewart in the UK, but its origins can be traced back to 1916 which was the beginning of Manifacture Parisienne de PPR. They survived in production until the late 50s, when it became one of the first original French pen companies to become a tragic victim of the ballpoint velvet revolution. The original early Météore pens were of good quality, certainly comparable to the medium shelf Anglo-American versions. Well known were the Pullman models, and that 30+ years later potentially inspired the current Pilot Capless and its Chinese copies. The years which followed, delivered less of the necessary minimum fountain pen acceptable quality but that is history now.
Features
Enough of history, our Météore fountain pen is an early example in purple and black French celluloid. Both Clip and trim are gold filled, and the nib is made in F size in a solid 18k gold. Incidentally according to French Law, proper gold exists only in a minimum of 18k, and nothing less can be legally called gold. We like this. This means that 14 k nibs called gold are illegal in France if called gold, otherwise they are made only in a “yellow metal”.
Comment
I bought this pen from a Paris based collector-restorer for a good money. The 18k No.5 nib is a perfect F example. It is reasonably wet, whilst its performance control is good to very good.

Ink used: Parker Quink Blue-Black, France/UK
